Last month we told you that, Terius Nash aka "The-Dream", would be releasing a free album at the end of August. *Here And time has finally arrived Dream's album, 1977, which is self -titled under his birth name Terius Nash, is a full length album with surprise features from a couple hip hop heavyweights.
It begins with a song called Wake Me When It's Over; An emotional record where he explains his past relationship as being a love/hate kind of thing. He loves everything physical about the girl, but hates all the drama and bullshit she brings with it."I HATE IT WHEN YOU GO, I LOVE TO WATCH YOU LEAVE, I HATE THE WAY YOU TALK TO ME, I LOVE YOU IN THEM JEANS, YOU SO DISRESPECTFUL."
In Used to Be, Terius talks about how his girl used to try so hard to impress, but now is comfortable and selfishly toying with his emotions. "THERE'S NOTHING AT HOME, SO I’M SEARCHING FOR LOVE, TRIED TO GET THROUGH, BUT YOU DON’T GIVE A FUCK, SHE CAN’T LOVE ME WHEN SHE DON’T LOVE HERSELF, FEELS LIKE I’M SLEEPING WITH SOMEBODY ELSE, NOW I’M SEEING SOMEBODY ELSE."
Long Gone is more of an upbeat emo swag record. Trick Stewart, The-Dream's other half at RadioKillaRecords, is back and bringing heat on this album. He's a great musician, as well as an all-together great producer and when you mix Dream's vocals/productions you have #radiokillers, no pun intended.
"Whoa There, Whoa There" Big Sean guest features on this classic-sounding cut from the duos(The-Dream/Tricky) Ghetto. "USED TO BLOW ME OFF NOW SHE TRYING TO BLOW ME KISSES WALKED INTO THE ROOM TELL HOW COULD I MISS IT MISS IT."
The-Dream is a Wedding Crasher, who would have thought? I guess it makes sense. He was married to singer
Rolex introduces a new artist Casha who is most-likely The-Dream's new artist on RadioKillaRecords. This track is definitely Rick Ross "Rozaayyyyyyy" inspired. Uugghhhh. Light on the auto-tune, Terius defines Rolex Music with a Rick Ross Grunt lurking in the background. "THIS IS ROLEX MUSIC, SITTING IN THE BACK OF THAT 62’, JUST ME AND MY BOO, RADIO KILLER MUSIC AND WE ALWAYS WITH THE BADDEST HOES .FUCK THE STATUS QUO."
Here comes the first real ballad on the album entitled Silly and not only is it another feature from newcomer Casha, but she is the star of the song. 5 minutes all to herself. Ok he devoted one complete track to her; she is defintely an artist of his he's really trying to promote.
1977 has such a dope beat. With sounds of drowning strings, as well as an upbeat drum pattern: But on a serious note the song is a beautiful ode to his mother who passed away when he was only a teenager. "AND YOU’RE WRITTEN ALL OVER ME, SO MUCH SO I CAN’T BELIEVE, YOUR GRANDCHILDREN ARE A SIGHT TO SEE."
Another hot-sounding track Wish You Were Mine, sounds like Dream puts his emotions aside on this one and shows us his ladykiller swag side. Similar to Hater from The-Dream's previous LP LoveKing, he explains how he is willing to do anything to get with this woman. "AND I DON’T WANNA START SHIT, BUT I KNOW THAT I’M STARTIN’ SHIT, GET RID OF THAT STARTER KIT AND COME ON."
This Shit Real Ni**a features a musical genius,Pharrell Williams from superproduction duo The Neptunes. I have a feeling this song was co-produced by Neptunes because a cowbell is a main feature in the song also a known instrument with their sound. Dream brings a more rapper/singer style to the record. Of course it wouldn't be complete without Pharrell blessing us with some sort of song and dance. We are lucky enough to get monsterous rapper bars instead of his familiar harmony. By the end, it seems to go from rap to rock, with electric guitars and live drums carrying out the song.
Form of Flattery is the closing song on the
1977 the album is a complete work of art from start to finish. I am a big fan and am impressed. Out of all his albums released Love/Hate, Love Vs. Money, Love King; 1977 is my number one choice upon further investigation. Terius tweeted this recently,
"The “TERIUS NASH EST. 1977″ is very personal and to my Fans!"
His lyrics are deep and actually felt throughout, not just catchy choruses and R. Kelly rip offs. I'm looking forward to his forthcoming album The Love IV: Diary of a Madman coming soon...
