Next In Show Presents An Interview With: Dom O Briggs

Dom O Briggs is an artist, herbalist with a brooklyn state of mind. He is bringing his show to the big leagues with his newest visual, 20 Years, off A Gemini's Tale. Check out our exclusive interview with the artist where he talks about inspirations, the sounds of music and dream collabos. It gets real.

Dom OBriggs Interview

You represent Brooklyn, buthave you lived there your whole life?

Nah. I was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Leftat age 3 and moved to Brooklyn. I used to live in South Jersey too. Bout 30minutes from Philly. I been in Brooklyn for most of my life though.

Growing up, what music didyou listen to?

I listened to a lot Gospel. I was raised inchurch. Other than that, I listened to whatever my mother, father or the radioplayed. I went to sleep listening to the radio. My mother listened to Mary J,Faith, Lauryn Hill, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu...things of that nature. My popslistened to Biggie, Tupac, New Edition, Big Pun, Big L, early Bad Boy stuff,etc.. Then, Musiq Soulchild became my favorite artist. He still is. I got thebest of both worlds though.

You’re a unique rapper with alot of talent. Does being creative run in your family?

Thanks. I appreciate that. My mother and auntwere in the choir, I have uncles and cousin who are drummers, pianist andsingers.

Who in your opinion are theleaders of the new school at the moment?

I feel that the leaders of the new school iseveryone that is on their grind right. Who ever is in the studio, or writing orat a show or doing anything art related right now.

You just participated in anevent called the Start It Up Benefit Concert. Explain your involvement?

Haha. Crazy thing is, I missed it. I had tohandle some family business. I performed at the first one though. SamanthaAlexandra. She is a talented singer and a person with a vision I believe in.She is the reason I am apart of it.

You consider yourself anherbalist. How are the herbs on the east coast?

Indeed I am. The botany department in New Yorkis pretty good. Nothing like Cali grown though.

Have you smoked CaliforniaKush?

Yes I have. Its amazing. The dro too. I needto get back out there! Hahaha

Why did you choose DopeNDoper from your upcoming EP as your firstsingle?

It was just a spur of the moment thing. It wasone of the only songs I had recorded for the project at the time. I wanted todrop something to let people know I was working.

Always Inspire(d) EP iscoming March 25, 2012. The title is perfect. Where did it come from?

Its one of my tattoo. I got the tattoo andthought that it would be a good title for my next project.

Is it a concept EP?

Its just a way of lie. Its the way I live.Everything is inspiration. EVERYTHING. In your actions, in other peoplesactions, In things you say, In things other people say...all of it. Me being anartist, everything inspires me. I have a double role as an artists and a fanthough. Other peoples art inspires me and I inspire people with my art. That'sjust how life goes.

Do you think your debutproject, The Sounds Of Music, got the recognition it deserved?

I think it was what it was. I was stillgetting my feet wet with recording and "finding my voice" so tospeak. Plus, I was still fairly new to the music scene or whatever so I didn'ttrip.

If you could work withanybody right now, who would it be?

Mint Condition and Terrace Martin. That wouldbe the sickest collab.

Last May you released AGemini’s Tale. Can we expect anything more from that project?

Nothing too fancy. A couple videos. Video forSuppose To, Gemini Swag, Urkel Musik and whatever else we shoot.  I justgo with the flow.

Next month I hear you will beplaying a show with buzzworthy artist, Emilio Rojas. Did you collaborate on atrack?

Nah,I haven't got the chance to work with him. I met him at DealWithNoDeal (radioshow) but that was that. I respect him and his music though.

Name someone of somethingthat has influenced you your whole life?

Music. It was the only thing that couldn't gowrong.

Thanks for your time Dom O.  You are next in show. Success isinevitable.

Thank You. I appreciate this opportunity.

Careless World: Rise Of The Last King Drops! Read All About It * Review *

Tyga –Careless World: Rise Of The Last King

Careless World is finally here. His debut No Introduction released in 2008, now it’s time for Tygato release his Young Money / Cash Moneydebut album. Although it has taken him three years to release his debut on thelabel, the wait is worth it. From the cover art to the features and production,I think everything is in place for a classic album. You can’t compare TygaMan to his previously released albumbecause he was much younger at the time. Since then he has grown so much into atop 10 rapper for his unique original style.  Tyga made it clearthat he was going to take over the airwaves. Careless World is jam packed with radio friendly hit singles. Insteadof me listing the track list and reviewing each song, I took a differentapproach. Below I created two lists and picked out the top three tracks that Iam feeling at the moment. Since the album has a majority of radio cuts, I pickedout the top 3 I predict will be all over the radio. #carelessworld #nextinshow

*UPDATE* Careless World: Rise Of The Last King will be pulled from shelves due to an uncleared Martin Luther King sample. Tyga then tweeted and stressed to his fans that, Careless World will be released on Feb. 21

Top 3 PotentialRadio Hits

-      I’m Goneft. Big Sean

Here is another song that you will soon hear all over the radio, markmy words. The production is credited to Boi-1da and Matthew Burnett. Hints ofDrake’s voice are found tagged throughout the song. Also another sample isused, which I was unable to identify. Big Sean lays it down for towards the endof the track and definitely gives Tyga a run for his money.

-      This IsLike ft. Robin Thicke

Surprisingly this is, in my opinion, one of the hottest tracks on thealbum. T Raw stays raw and to top it off superstar production is at hand. BillionaireBoy himself, Pharrell Williams accompanies Polow Da Don and deliver a smoothoperation. Robin Thicke is the dessert to the entrée. His falsetto vocals glazethe hook so well. This track is a favorite of mine and on repeat on the iphoneat this time.

-      For TheFame ft. Chris Brown & Wynter

What can I say about this song…Seriously what can I say? It doesn’treally fit the album other than it will dominate the pop charts. So for that Iappreciate the effort. Chris Brown on anything is platinum status at this pointand newcomer Wynter Gordon fits nice as the female vocals.

Top 3 Songs Next In Show Approves

-      Lil’Homie ft Pharrell

Pharrell Williams is on another level creatively from everyone else inthe world, so when he collaborates with an artist such as Tyga, you know thesong is going to be a hit. This is what we have here. Lil’ Homie is a classicNeptunes original beat goes nice over his T Raw’s flows and Pharrell’s catchyhook. Lets not forget about Chad Hugo the other half of The Neptunes whowithout his production, there would be no hit.

-           DoIt All

Jess Jackson brings soul tothis one. Do It All is so nice. So much going on from the electric guitar, tothe background vocal and samples used. Tyga has created an original sound fromthe ground up. Even “all-mighty”(sarcasm for the lame) Drake bites his swagfrom time to time.

-           Careless World

The self-titled trackCareless World starts the album. I look at track like a 3 part story. Firstpart explains the Rise Of The King. The second part, he discusses his struggle. The third part is when Tyga becomes Tyga. Production is credited to JessJackson. Haven’t heard of the producer until now, but his contribution to the albumis incredible. A breath of fresh air in what hip-hop should sound like.

Inthe end, Careless World: Rise Of The Last King was long awaited, yet worth thewait. Tyga on some other shit, messin with some other shit and whether he stayswith Young Money or not, he will stay creative and proactive. Album in storesFebruary 21, 2012.

Next In Show Interviews Greek Indie Band The Finger

Another week, another interview, and this time we got a band from another country. The Finger is female fronted by Hypnelia and is from the second largest city in Greece known as Thessaloniki. In a hurting economy, all this city has to look forward to is beautiful music to uplift their downfall. Fresh from performing, The Finger took some time out to get exclusive with Next In Show. Listen to their EP for free below.

TheFinger x Exclusive Interview
Growing up inGreece, what music did you listen to?
Weall listened to different genres. We have influences that vary from trip hop toheavy metal. Personally I was very influenced by my father, who was a fan ofall the big rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, etc.
How did thefive of you come together to form The Finger?
Weall had previously worked in other projects together. Sotiris, guitarist andproducer of our band, owns a recording studio where I was recording my soloalbum. So we all met in the studio, except for Nick, the drummer, who laterjoined us. We immediately formed a good chemistry and that was during a periodwhen we all wanted to do something else besides our solo projects.
Explain the processyou went through in recording your upcoming album “I Don’t Believe My Eyes”?
FirstI have to say, we had lots of fun making the album. It was a very pleasantexperience and we already have plans on recording the second album! We recorded17 tracks I think, from which we selected 11 for the album. Endless hours ofrecordings, we experimented with some of the tracks so much that we recordedthem 2 and three times, with different lyrics, different melodies etc. Wewanted our debut to be an album we completely love and we worked it until wecould say, "Ok, now, it's done. We don't wanna change a thing"
What is theidea behind the album title?
Thetitle is taken from the first track of the album. We wanted the album title tobe something we all feel. I guess you all know the financial and politicalsituation in Greece right now. Things are changing so fast, we don't have theluxury to trust anyone. Every single politician in Greece says what needs to besaid to secure some votes. We don't believe and we don't trust anyone.
If you couldheadline a tour with one other artist/band, who would it be and why?
Thereare so many great bands out there, this is really difficult to answer! We wouldlove to tour with anyone who is as much excited as we are. Regardless ofgenres!

Besides music, what else goes on in your hometown of Thessaloniki?
Demonstrationsand riots! There isn't much really going on right now. Unfortunately, we haveless shows every year, less festivals, less theatres. I don't know if it cangetter ay worse than it is right now.

Are youplanning on going on tour to promote the album?
Weare planning a tour in Greece for now. We don't really know if we'll be gettingoutside Greece anytime soon. Since we are a DIY band, it's not so easy to plana tour abroad, you'll have to work with booking agencies and since we're notworking with one yet, it's not in our future plans.

What music areyou listening to right now for inspiration?
Atthe moment, we try not to listen to any new staff coming out, so we don't gettoo influenced. But from time to time, we go through some old and favorites.Peter Murphy and The Cure have always been among my favorites. This year Ibelieve is gonna be a great year for music, with so many albums coming out. Iliked "Given to the wild" by the Maccabees. The Killers are releasingan album, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age; I want to hear all of them.

What is yourfavorite part about performing in front of a live audience?
Theapplause! The energy you exchange with the people! The anxiety beforeperforming. Everything.

Have you everbeen to the United States? If so, did you attend any concerts?
Unfortunately,no. But we'd love to be given a chance to perform there! I hear the audience ispretty wild there!

It happens tobe Grammy Weekend out here in Los Angeles. Do you approve of award shows?
Itdepends. Award shows in Greece are guided by major labels. I don't know theGrammys work, but I guess a celebration of music doesn't hurt. At the otherhand, we could all live without them. There are many musicians that getnominated and don't even show up. So, it's really as necessary for themusicians, as it is for major labels.

What is onepiece of advice that could help up and coming artists accomplish their goal?
Youshould really ask an established artist! We haven't achieved anything yet! We're just beginning! If you know a good advice, please tell us! :)
ThanksFor Your Time The Finger Band. Your #nextinshow

Aiur x Next In Show x Interview

Next In Show brings you electronic music at it's finest. The duo known as Aiur is fresh to the music world and is already making their mark. When I searched them on youtube I was surprised to find great music accompanied by awesome visuals. Check out this exclusive interview below with Tim and Dan aka Aiur.

Facebook
Twitter
Youtube

What exactly is the meaning of your duo name Aiur?

Aiur is actually a video game reference, it's from the Blizzard game Starcraft. We're big fans of video games in general , it's actually one of the first games we got into growing up.

You reside in Long Island, New York. How is the music scene out there?

It's an emerging scene with a growing talent pool, we're just a short distance away from the city which gives long island an interesting mix of musical influences.

What music other than dance/electronic do you get ideas from?

We draw inspiration from a lot of different genre's but we grew up mainly listening to rock and it's sub genre's.
The 90's were a great period for that,if you listen closely you can hear how it continues to influence our sound.

Explain the track 'Crusade'?

The idea for the track was inspired by the concept of having a good versus evil kind of a theme set on a grand scale, musically it meant having an approachable house melody shift into a darker electro feeling atmosphere.

I recently checked out your music visuals on YouTube. Their amazing. Who created them?

The videos are more of a collaborative effort made possible with the help of some of our favorite international artists. Although most of the artists vary from one clip to another, one constant contributor is mike winkelmann, one of the more talented people we know.

Where do all of your other visuals on your Facebook page come from?

All of the artwork found on our official page is designed by us to fit the feel of each individual Mashup Monday release. They're meant to compliment the music just as our video clips do.

What music are you listening to now for inspiration?

We still listen to a pretty wide variety of music, we'll always be fans of rock for example but lately it's been mostly EDM and it's sub genres.

Are you touring?

Currently our main focus right now is to finish and release our first EP, but we haven't given up on the idea of a possible spring into summer tour.

If you had the chance right now to open up for any artist/dj who would you pick and why?

We recently caught Dada Life at Webster Hall in NYC and were blown away by their constant energy and stage presence throught the night, if we had to pick anyone, it would definately be those two.

Do you plan on attending any music festivals this year?

We'd like to and we still may make a few surprise appearances but this year is mainly focused on releasing our first EP and eventually a full length album.

What is the next project coming from Aiur?

The final track for our EP, it's currently untitled and nearing completion and due to be released within the next month or so. We recently released a teaser for the track as a work in progress on our Official Facebook page which received great feedback from local and international producers.

What is a positive reinforcement that helps your duo stay on track?

The biggest factor for us is that we went into this as friends rather than partners, with the simple goal of making good music (the kind of music that we actually wanted to listen to) and none of that has or will ever change.
We live just a few blocks from each other in the same hometown we both grew up in, we were good friends before Aiur and will continue to be long into the future, thats a major source of reinforcement that keeps our duo going.

Thanks For Your Time Aiur. You Are #nextinshow

Next In Show x Celloman's Compositional Force Exclusive Interview

Next In Show doesn't refuse alternative music, like our feature artist for this week. Light's are on John Spalding aka Celloman's Compositional Force and his music takes us back to the beginning of time. His niche is writing musical notation for classical instruments such as piano and cello. Check out our exclusive interview below for more. The Renaissance for modern day listeners.

When did you first learn to play instruments?

I started playing instruments at age 8.

Did you attend a music school, take lessons, or were you selftaught?

I was taught by piano and cello teachers. Piano up till 8th grade. Cello all through middle schooland high school. I did piano again after that and then cello for a coupleof years to today. I also did some singing but it was never my strongpoint. I play now at church and am composing on keyboard or piano.

Where were you born?

I was born in Northern Virginia in Fairfax.

Where did you grow up and how has your hometown influenced yourmusic?

I grew up at Great Falls and have constantly listened to music andinternalized all types of music.

You write music, literally. How is this different from writinglyrics to a song?

Writing music for me is a careful process. I have manysteps I go through including transferring it to piano and
also the process of writing down the music. I have manyideas in my head and I can write anything down at any time. In writing lyrics there is basic stuff to consider (likea verse chorus bridge form). In the way of solid musical ideas I think the lyrics arethe ideas. Following the lyrics there is music to fit them. It is notalways that way and is sometimes even more extravagant (one reason why I like Symphonic Metal).

Aside from playing music, what else are you involved in?

I am involved in studying history at George MasonUniversity. I also live on campus for the spring and fall semesters. I am alsovery religious and a member of the Catholic campus Ministry (as amember not as an administrative position).

Growing up in Virginia, home of superproducers The Neptunes andTimbaland, did their music influence you at all?

I have not heard of the Neptunes but Timbaland I haveheard of but not listened to any of their material.

Well ok then. Moving on. What music are you listening to on your ipod right now?

Currently I have many artists on my iPod (lookingto get more albums and more artists on there). Some big names are LacunaCoil, KeikoMatsui, RobThomas, Vanessa Carlton, Phil Collins, GeorgeHandel (classical), NicolaiRimsky Korsakov among others. The five rock/pop groups I really have come to love are TheEagles A-Ha The Corrs TheCardigans and Fleetwood Mac.

If you were given one composer to collaborate with dead oralive, who would it be and why?

I would collaborate with Beethoven or Aaron Copeland. Beethoven because of the nature of his ideas andcomplexity. Copeland after he came out of his period of serialismbecause that is when he wrote "Rodeo" one of my favorite all timepieces.

What are your expectations for your music this year?

This year my music might be anything. I am completing apiece I started in the summer. I have a video up that gives a preview of thaton cellomancompose channel on youtube. The next piece I have no idea and I amopen to collaborate as well. Anything could happen.
