The Hype Is So Mellow

So by now everyone should have heard from the tyrannical crew known as Odd Future. The full title of the name is OddFutureWolfGangKillThemAll OFWGKTA. Long name, yet I don't have a problem saying it. I want to shout it from the rooftops. This group is made up of a slew of great talents like Left Brain, Odd Future's personal producer as well as lyricist. Then you have future writer of the year, Frank Ocean. Other members include, Mr. Smoke A lot of Pot Domo Genesis, Hodgy Beats, Tyler the Creator, hype men Jasper Dolphin & Taco, Mike G, missing in action somewhere in Samoa is 17 year old rapper Earl Sweatshirt, and of course the amazing GolfWang house DJ Syd Tha Kid. In my mind, they are no doubt the modern day Wu-Tang mixed with a little bit of N.E.R.D and a dash of Eminem.

The group I haven't mentioned yet, which to me stands out the most, is MellowHype. A sub-group of Odd Future consisting of members Left Brain & Hodgy Beats. Simple minds could consider their music as satanic loud noise, or you can take it for what it is, which is pure neck-breaking, swagged out, adrenaline-pumping Los Angeles street lullabies. Their lyrics speak truth, about everyday struggles. Pusha T recently commented in an interview saying, "I got a song with Hodgy...Hodgy was really good to me(with the verse he recorded) people are going to hear, their whole movement is fresh." I completely agree.This is a movement that has taken not only the US, but the world by storm and is now in control of it's fate.

MellowHype first released their debut mixtape "YelloWhite" Produced by Left Brain & Tyler the Creator just over a year ago in February of 2010. The album had instant classic's like SmokeSumKushWitMe and CocainKeys. Then there was the street anthem "Thuggin", where you get to hear a hot verse from Left Brain. In that same year, October 2010, they released the follow up to YelloWhite, BlackenedWhite. Amazing album from front to back. Spotlight songs are Loaded ft. Mike G, F666 the Police ft. Tyler the Creator ( this song stupid good performed live. refer to clip below) and Rico ft. Frank Ocean. As a matter of fact, just play album in it's entirety.

On June 13, 2011 the mixtape was Re-Released as an album under the independent label Fat Possum, based in Oxford Mississippi. Odd Future just wrapped up a summer long Europe/Japan Tour.  Also, Congratulations to Tyler the Creator and the rest of WolfGang for winning Best New Artist at the MTV Video Music Awards. Nike Air Mags Released and Auctioned on eBay. Power Laces in 2015?

Remember the movie Back to the Future 2? The way Robert Zemeckis portrayed the future was amazing at the time, but so far from reality. I know everyone remembers the hoverboards and flying cars, but do you remember Marty McFly's get up when he arrived in the future? Long-story short, Nike is finally releasing the Almighty Air MAG's!


1500 pairs will be auctioned off on eBay and all proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The charity auction will run from September 8th, 2011(Tonight!) to September 18th, 2011. Furthermore, Sergey Brin the Co-Founder of Google will match proceeds with a near 50 million dollar donation. This time last year there were rumors of Nike buying rights patented self-lacing shoe. These sneakers will come equipped with official power laces'(Hasn't been confirmed yet, but power laces might not be included) and glowing lights! The shoe is illuminated by pinching the “ear’ of the high top. The feature itself makes it the first rechargeable footwear from Nike. Each shoe holds a five hour charge. It wasn't until yesterday that select sneaker blogs received a package. Inside was a black box which included a pair of metal shield glasses and a iPod shuffle containing an audio clip from Doc(Emmit Brown) “Welcome to Los Angeles. If my calculations are correct, over the next 24 hours you are about to see some SERIOUS SH*T!”. As the boys from our beloved 1993 movie The Sandlot said, Babe Ruth was a "colossus of clout". Clout meaning to have great influence or muscle.Yeah, I'd say the Big Bambino definitely had tons of clout. I mean wouldn't you trust the words of someone who has done it all, someone who has pull to get you what you need? I mean it could backfire in some cases but usually "clout" is what get's the nobodies inside the VIP, the kids out of the playpen, and the celebrities out of jail. Yes, clout works as a get out of jail card as long as your score is high enough. You did know you could get a clout score right? If not read on, if yes read on...



Well, well I guess your clout isn't where it should be then. Imagine using your clout to generate a score which would ultimately be a great tool for persons such as myself to influence companies to work with me. It's like being the cool kid in school. It's like an alternative to an IQ, with clout it's not what you know it's who you know. So let's go become that cool kid in school...





Here ye, all obsessive Facebook, FourSquare, LinkedIn, Twitter and other social media addicts now you can generate clout with Klout. Klout analyzes your influence across your social network by using collected data from many of your favorite social media sites. The size of your network, content creation, and the activity of others with your content aids in it's algorithm. Klout uses a scoring system of 1 -100 (really) to determine your realm of influence. 


There are three measurements of clout on Klout - True Reach, Amplification Probability and Network Score. 


True Reach is the size of one's engaged audience and is based on those of their followers and friends who actively listen and react to messages. 


Amplification Score is the likelihood that one's messages will generate actions (retweets, @messages, likes and comments) and is on a scale of 1 to 100. 


Network score indicates how influential one's engaged audience is and is also on a scale from 1 to 100. The Klout score is highly correlated to clicks, comments and retweets. 

Klout measures influence by using data points from Twitter, such as: following count, follower count, retweets, list memberships, how many spam/dead accounts are following you, how influential the people that retweet you are, and unique mentions. "Hello, and you do"?


Question's like these fifty times a night are constant reminders that short timed communication tactics are needed; Business Cards. I mean face it sometimes the guy with onion breath and a moped can't help you make a million bucks. Although, it is sometimes hard to just walk away. So for this reason people, it is dire that we professionals of networking are prepared for the "hard walk" of the traditional Hard Rock hosted company networking party. No pun intended.

I remember my first business card. It took me about five minutes because I was told what it should look like, ugly. The card looked just like the person telling me what it should look like, except with my name on it, my extension wasn't even on it, just all of their information. Sad face. Well, I eventually got my extension added and ultimately that was the "click" that made me want to do my own thing altogether. I'll tell you this, I have never been so happy.

Now I appreciate the benefits of having my own brand, my own image and not just being a tool for someone else's good. I appreciate the fact that I am a tool for all of those who are trying everyday to make it big. I enjoy being that person, or one of these people. We are all our own brand in the end, make sure it fits you.

Doctor, Doctor time for the Doctor... Unless...

One thing I can say about most of the people I know is that they never talk about the Doctors. I mean isn't there some kind of human code that say's we must be scared of the Doctors office? I guess not wanting to know you have two months to live is a great reason I suppose, especially if you're going in for a simple check up. The fact still stands though, most Americans don't visit the Doctors in time.

Young adults should visit the Doctors with or without symptoms for check ups at least once every other year if not once a year. Elders should visit about three to four times a year.
