Frank Ocean has had one hell of a year as a new artist, and he wasnt even nominated in the category. It's ok because what the mainstream doesn't know is that Odd Future affiliate has been named the opening act on part of Coldplay's Europe tour. Aside from that he will release the followup to his unofficially official debut album nostalgia, ultra. Frank Ocean has already been recognized as one of the hottest writers in the game and it's only the beginning.
In just a few short months, Coldplay's album Mylo Xyloto, has already achieved platinum status worldwide. It is now time to take that success across North America. It has been quite a while since Coldplay has put out an album. Viva La Vida was their last studio album released on June 17, 2008. Over the summer they released an ep, Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall, which includes two songs off the album and a B-side. Now with their new single out Paradise, it's safe to say the group is ready to conquer the world yet again. Their upcoming album is scheduled for October 25th. Original member of the band Roxy Music, Brian Eno lends additional composition to the album. #nextinshow brings you the exclusive album review for Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto.
The album starts off with the self-titled track Mylo Xyloto. The song is a quick instrumental to the album. Chris Martin, frontman of Coldplay, previously stated that Mylo and Xyloto are two characters in the albums storyline. From there, the song blends almost undetected into the next track titled, Hurts Like Heaven. This is an upbeat classic Coldplay sound that almost feels like it belongs in a car commercial.
Paradise, which is the bands next single, comes next. A beautiful string section starts off before being drowned out by an even more epic string section. The song explains a girl trying to make it in the world. When life gets too hard, all she has to do is close her eyes and she will be in paradise. The next track is strangely titled Charlie Brown. Some sort of high pitched chant begins this song. Another epic record that I could only imagine would be amazing live. Things get mellow on Us Against the World. "If we could fly away, float up to the surface and start again". The idea is simple. If we come together, we can have a positive impact on this world for the future of our youth. M.M.I.X begins with rapid guitar strums and ambient sounds. After less than a minute the interlude transitions to Every Teardrop is a Waterfall. First come the synthesizers, letting you know that this track is expecting you on your feet. Then comes the drums, which are a necessity to the equation. The song I think is a metaphor for, Our feeling and emotions are important no matter how big or small the problem.
Major Minus was previously released on the EP. It was my favorite out of the three tracks. It has all the great sounds of old Coldplay and combines it with today's rock star, experimental Coldplay. Another mellow intermission comes with the song U.F.O. This is the way Coldplay started out. Chris Martin's trademarked sound never gets old. Just announced September 9, 2011, the same day the Mylo Xyloto Track list was released, Martin also announced that island princess and diva in the making Rihanna will be featured on the track Princess of China. The songs starts out with a synth or a video game sample being looped. When the drums come in, you can definitely they tailored this beats with Rihanna in mind. The drums have a hip hop influence. Ri Ri comes on the second verse. "Once upon a time, were burning bright, now all we ever seem to do is fight". You know your an amazing artist when you can completely step out of your music genre/element and still be able to stay true and make this song the song that much better. Up In Flames also has some hip hop influence to it, right off the back with it's percussion. Coldplay is very relevant in the hip hop community. Most noticeably Kanye West's Homecoming, and Jay Z's Beach Chair. A Hopeful Transmission should be renamed, A Hopeful Transition. Another 30 second break from our sponsors [Car Ad Here]. Don't Let it Break Your Heart discusses disappointing the person you love. Someone always counting on you and never coming through. Up with the Birds, I believe is a Leonard Cohen reference, as he is listed in the production credits. I feel like the song is broken into two parts. The first part is a Leonard Cohen influenced folk song, and the second half is a much more updated Leonard Cohen influenced folk song, which concludes the album.
[Mylo Xyloto will be a concept album. According to Chris Martin, the album is "based on a love story with a happy ending.", in which two protagonists: Mylo and Xyloto, who are living in an oppressive, dystopian urban environment, meet one another through a gang called "The Lost Boys", and fall in love. Lyrically, the album is inspired by "old school American graffiti" and "the White RoseMovement." Martin also said that the album was influenced by HBO TV series The Wire.Coldplay have stated on several occasions that they want their next studio album to be "more acoustic" and "more intimate" than its predecessor, 2008's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends.] - Wikipedia
The album is amazing and any fan of Coldplay will appreciate this music. Any fan of music should appreciate this music. It is experimental leaves us wondering if Coldplay will ever release another album, or will Mylo Xyloto complete their discography. Stay tuned... #nextinshow
