"This album represents the last 10 years of my life..." - Kaskade
When I think of electronic dance music, personally I am thinking Ryan Raddon aka Kaskade. For almost the past decade this amazingly stylish, and creative DJ has been tearing up not only the clubs, but the radio stations as well. His first hit 'Stepping Out' off his debut album reached #5 on Billboard dance charts. That song alone, at the time, was the reason I became interested in his music.
From then until now, he has gone on to release 7 more albums, each more unique and daring than the last. including his most recent forthcoming album Fire & Ice. He said in his promo, "This album represents the last 10 years of my life..." It is currently available only for digital download and will be officially released on November 8, 2011. Here is a mini review to hold you over.
Kaskade starts the album with a song called Eyes featuring talented singer, Mindy Gledhill. The thing about this album is that it is a 2-disc album(Fire/Ice). Fire includes 10 original tracks. Disc 2 is made up of Ice Mixes. The Ice Mixes are hot. I prefer them to the originals. It just fit me better, I'm just saying. Eyes was also the first single released back in August. Turn It Down featuring Rebecca & Fiona is the next song. I can almost immediately tell that this track is stepping out of the box, while keeping that classic Kaskade sound. Strange enough this was also the second single to the album released in September.
Lick It features super dubstep DJ/producer Skrillex. A lot of buzz has surrounded Skrillex in the recent months, from bringing out rapper Lupe Fiasco, to collaborating with Kaskade on this Fire & Ice album (He is known for collaborating with no one) Glad to see great minds continuing to come together and made beautiful music. Long time friend and collaborator to Kaskade, Haley is featured on Llove. Him and her go together like peanut butter and jelly or fire & ice...? Let Me Go features Marcus Bently who also co-produced the record. Waste Love is the next track from the album. It features danish singing duo Quadron. The track Ice follows. I am unsure why their is no Fire track. Thought it would have been obvious. Dan Black adds his 'wonky pop' vocals to the club hopper. Oh and in case you are unfamiliar with 'wonky pop' it's a term used to describe a loose grouping of musical acts that played what the BBC called "quirky, catchy and credible pop"... -_- Moving on, How long features a group that may still be an unknown to you. Late Night Alumni is actually a DJ group consisting of Ryan Raddon himself, as well as Finn Bjarnson, John Hancock, and vocalist Becky Jean Williams.
Room For Happiness featuring the ever-talented Skylar Grey. You may know her from appearances on Eminem's, I Need A Doctor, or Diddy Dirty Money's, Coming Home. She has an amazing voice and is also a highly talented writer. Look out for her solo album. Be sure to check this album out in it's entirety including the Ice Mixes portion. The party doesn't stop from start to finish. Be sure to check out Kaskademusic.com
