Lights Is #NEXTINSHOW

Back in 2008 when she first hit the music scene, Lights was just another girl with a dream of being a rockstar. She was a singular light, who produced, engineered and wrote her own music. That year she released her self-titled debut album, which won her Best New Artist at the Juno Awards. This is rare to find from an indie pop singer, that's why when she was only 16, Lights signed a publishing deal to begin writing for other artists. Now at the end of 2011 with her release of Siberia, she is #nextinshow for 2012. With the whole dubstep movement going on right now, I can see why Lights has began down this path. Although she always involved electro synths and up beat sounds, her new music will be steered more towards the dubstep movement while keeping the simplicity and simplicity of pop music. October 14 she released Siberia, a much more experimental album that definitely works. Lights had this to say about it.

“I went over to Brian [Borcherdt’s] house with Graham [Walsh] and we just started jamming until something started to form, as opposed to the last record which was more structured and less live feeling. We wired old synths and toy synths through all these pedals and machines from their junk table,” she laughs. “They’re straight-up mad scientists.”
