Lana Del Rey puts forth an excellent debut in "Born To Die." The album puts forth a cohesive soulful sound that seems to draw inspiration from her own troubles. The tempo of the album is slow, allowing Del Rey to put forth a show of her vocal talents such as on the song Yayo. While production techniques range from more sample based such as on the tracks Blue Jeans and Gramma to more acoustic based tracks like Oh Say Can You See, the album maintains a constant sound and vision. Del Rey marvels in her debut creating an utterly unique sound reminiscent of a female modern day Johnny Cash with hints of Norah Jones on the slower tracks on the album. While some of the choruses can become repetitive at times, the individuality of her style means this album will be put on repeat for me for a while. Overall I would recommend this album for anyone, especially if you are looking to diversify your music tastes.
